On March 31, 2025 Curaçao and Sint Maarten introduced the Caribbean guilder as the new currency for both countries. When Curaçao and Sint Maarten became autonomous countries within the Dutch Kingsdom on October 10, 2010, they decided to form a monetary union with one central bank and one common currency, being the Caribbean guilder.
In 2019 the countries instructed the CBCS to work towards the introduction of this new currency. This process was completed end 2024 while the introduction date was set for March 31, 2025
The theme of the new currency is the world under the sea: Fish swimming freely, seeing no borders reflects the metaphor for the unity shared between the counties Sint Maarten and Curaçao as part of the monetary union.
