GENERAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENTS
During the first quarter of 2020, real GDP in Sint Maarten dropped by 1.0%, following a sharp increase of 8.2% in the first quarter of 2019. Meanwhile, inflation remained mild with average consumer prices rising by only 0.2% in the March quarter of 2020, down from the 0.7% recorded in the first quarter of 2019. The decline in inflation reflected primarily lower communication, food, and utility prices.
